GCC Community Conversation on the pd|hub Initiative - Professional Development Committee Lunch & Learn
3/31/2021 - 3/31/2021

Event Description
Professional Development Committee Lunch & Learn:
A GCC Community Conversation on the pd|hub Initiative
Wednesday, March 31, 4-5 pm EST

As a major stakeholder in the future direction of professional development for doctoral and postdoctoral trainees, you are invited to join the GCC’s Professional Development Committee for an overview and follow-up conversation on Professional Development Hub’s (pd|hub) recently published report, Enhancing Dissemination of Evidence-Based Models for STEM PhD career development following the pd|hub’s Report Public Release Event.

The report presents findings from pd|hub’s NSF-funded convening of interdisciplinary and cross-sector stakeholders at the Janelia Research Campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The goal of the workshop was to understand the diverse needs and contributions of stakeholders in graduate and postdoctoral education and to stimulate local and national actions that will advance the career and professional development of early-career scientists. The report highlights key issues and proposed actions, stakeholder-specific perspectives, and pd|hub-affiliated activities moving forward since the workshop. Access the report here.

pd|hub Report Public Release Event on Thursday, March 4, 4 pm EST (register - link external to eventbrite)
The event features graduate educators, education researchers, PhD employers, scientific societies, and early-career scientists, with opening remarks from Bruce Alberts, former President of the National Academy of Sciences.

GCC Professional Development Event on Wednesday, March 31, 4-5 pm EST
In this session, we’ll explore the challenges raised in the pd|hub report for our profession and the opportunities we have to collaborate, broaden our skillset, and network to amplify our voices and effect change at the local and national level.
