South Central GCC Regional Meeting

Event Description
Please join GCC colleagues from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana for the South Central GCC Regional Meeting at Tulane University, Friday, January 11/12 2018.  There is no registration fee to attend the regional meeting; however, you must be a paid GCC member to attend.

Our meeting will be held on Friday, January 12 at Tulane’s uptown campus, we will be meeting in the Reiss Room (G-01) of the Lavin-Bernick Center (LBC).

Thursday, January 11
5:30 PM: Meet for drinks and appetizers (paid for by GCC) and informal dinner as a group (dinner paid by individual GCC members).

Friday, January 12
8:15 AM Meet in Hampton Inn lobby to travel to campus (walk, streetcar, Uber)
8:30 - 9:00 AM Breakfast at Tulane University, Reiss Room (G-01) of the Lavin-Bernick Center (LBC) 
9:00 - 10:30 AM Show and Tell Part 1 (please share information and ideas with GCC colleagues about a project, program, resource you have created/developed and want to share, or ask the group about a question or issue you have experienced  - bring copies of handouts to share if you'd like!)
10:30 -10:45 AM Break
10:45 AM - Noon  Invited Speaker (being confirmed)
Noon - 1:00 Lunch ( Location TBD)
1:00 - 2:30 PM Show and Tell Part 2
2:30 - 3:00 PM Imagine PhD

Accommodation
A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Hampton Inn - Garden District, 3626 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans. Call 504-899-9990 or 1-866-311-1200. Or book online.

The GCC rate is $129 per night. Rooms must be booked by December 12, 2017 to get the GCC rate. The hotel is willing to extend our special rate for anyone wishing to stay in New Orleans through the weekend after the GCC meeting.

Note: The Hampton Inn is not in walking distance of the university.  However, there is the St. Charles streetcar line that runs directly between the hotel and the university, and we will also be providing shuttle service between the Hampton Inn and Tulane on Friday at the beginning and end of the day.   If you are planning to drive, please look out for forthcoming details about parking at the University.

And finally: Why not make it a two-event visit?  You may want to consider spending a week in New Orleans, because on Saturday, January 20, 2018, Tulane University will also be hosting a day-long, free Graduate and Professional Education Summit.  Registration details will be available soon, but plenary speakers will include Teresa Magnum (Iowa), Casey Miller (RIT), Kenny Gibbs (NIH), and Jim Grossman (AHA).  In addition, break-out career-related sessions for faculty and graduate students will be led by GCC members Amruta Inamdar (Purdue) and Briana Mohan (Tulane).  Please contact Briana Mohan (bshaymoh@tulane.edu) via email for more information.
