Discussion Panel: Budget & Finance Management, 2/27/24, 1-2 pm ETEvent Description and Goals:
GCCers at all career stages aspire to gain skills in budget/finance management. This discussion panel will gather experts in Operations, Budget, and Grant Management, from both private and public US institutions, to allow GCC members across affiliations to ask questions and get advice on:
  1. Understanding how their graduate & postdoc affairs or professional development offices are funded within an institution (hard money vs soft money)
  2. Best practices around sustainable budget development, management, and closure
  3. The language of justifying budget increases and advocating for one's office/team
  4. Grant/professional development funding opportunities they could apply for, as well as best practices for grant management.
Invited Panelist Speakers:
  • Kevin Gonzales, Assistant Vice President for Operations at Boston University
  • Soumyajit (Jit) Majumdar, PhD, Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Programs at the University of Mississippi
  • Barbara Karen Neyses, EdD, Associate Dean of Administration and Financial Operations at the University of Mississippi
The discussion will be moderated by Sarah C. Hokanson, PhD, Assistant Vice President of Research Development and Assistant Provost of PhD & Postdoctoral Affairs at Boston University.
